God's Battle with the Enemy, Part 2, April 12, 2021

Teaching by: Pastor Jeff

Lesson on YouTube: https://youtu.be/yFOcCPNCkQk

In this lesson we will take a deeper dive into some of what we covered last time. In doing this, we will look at the similarities Satan would have seen between himself and humanity. From this vantage point the deception in the Garden of Eden appears a reasonable tactic. But when it didn't work, the next steps required a more subversive plan.

We talk about sin being in the flesh. But how did it get there? God wouldn't have made us with a sinful flesh. In this lesson we will investigate what the Scripture tells us, and connect the dots between Satan's ultimate goal to defile and destroy humanity in his rebellion against God.

Prophetic Lexicon for this Lesson:

  • Stone = Jesus, Son of God

  • Mountain = King, Kingdom, or Throne

  • Star = Angel

  • Cloud = The Glory of God

  • Heart = The seat of life, so one's mind, soul, spirit, or one's entire emotional nature and understanding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS4iM6KpPYo

Ezekiel 28:15 [a description of Satan]

Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till unrighteousness was found in thee.

Genesis 1:26 [the creation of mankind]

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion..."

- From the perspective of Satan, if he can make humans fall to the same unrighteousness, he would take down humanity with him.

- Satan isn't doing this because he thinks humanity will actually achieve this. It is a lie.

- This would also destroy the thing that God made in His image.

- Let's investigate Satan's unrighteousness. What we call "pride" has more dimensions to it.

You said in your heart,

- Our hearts are where the sin is, where the spiritual battle is.

- Matthew 5:28 [Jesus talking] "But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

- Remember, Heart = The seat of life, so one's mind, soul, spirit, or one's entire emotional nature and understanding.

‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God

- He was not happy with his already elevated status, he wanted even higher position, above all the angels of God.

I will set my throne on high;

- Satan wanted Michael's job as the archangel.

- Michael is the chief over all the angels.

- This is not God's throne yet, he is working his way up to that.

I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north;

- Or the mount of congregation, aka "Mount Zion"

- This is where God meets with and rules over His people.

- Jesus, the Son of God will sit here and rule over Israel.

- Here we see Satan wanting that for himself too.

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;

- The word "cloud," used symbolically, always represents the glory of God.

- Shekinah Glory that is only owned by God.

- Satan wanted to take this glory for himself too.

I will make myself like the Most High.’

- No mincing words here. Satan wanted to be equal to God.

- In doing so, he led the rebellion against the Almighty.

- And with him, 1/3 of the angels fell too.

The 5 "I wills" of Satan look at this from various dimensions.

The book of Ezekiel we find the following...

Ezekiel 28:12-13: [speaking of Satan, as the King of Tyre]

“You were the signet of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God;

- Sounds a lot like Adam and Eve.

- Satan attempts to take humanity down the same way.

- The deception then is a logical tactic.

4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

- Humanity was evicted from the Garden of Eden.

- The first dispensation, "Innocence" came to an end.

- The second dispensation, "Conscience" began.

- But Satan's destruction of humanity wasn't successful.

- Satan's second attack, tempting Cain to murder Abel, doesn't work either.

A New Plan

- Failure for a terrorist is practice for success.

- Satan develops a more cunning plan.

- Satan plots to defile these humans.

- The ramifications of this next step we are still dealing with.

The Sons of God

- These are angels.

- We see them in heaven in Job 1:6, with God and Satan comes too.

- These watchers were posted to intercede for humanity.

6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.

- Satan sees an opportunity here.

- The sons of God are in proximity to humanity, and humanity is aware of them.

When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. 5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

- Let's take this apart:

* man began to multiply... daughters were born to them.

- Satan is the father of all lies.

- He deceived 1/3 of the angels.

- Connecting the dots here, Satan tempted these watcher angels.

* the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive.

* when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man (had sex with them)

* and they bore children to them

- Vs. 7 in KJV reads, "going after strange flesh"

- This resulted in the Nephilim.

- So what was the point of this?

NOTE:

Remember, in Genesis 1:26, God and His divine counsil decide to make man in the image of God.

Now in Genesis 6:1-5, Satan defiles God's 'very good' creation, the crown of God's good creation, through genetic contamination.

- The result of this contamination is the continual evil in the heart of man.

- Remember, Heart = The seat of life, so one's mind, soul, spirit, or one's entire emotional nature and understanding.

- God would not have created anything defiled in His good creation.

- The defilement of human genetics created evil, but also the building blocks for disease.

- We also see it manifest in areas like gender identity issues for instance.

- But this is a multifaceted attack by Satan. Genetics is one layer, but demons exacerbate this.

- Then add cultural context, situational stress, and traumatic events.

- See how this is all designed to kill, steal, and destroy?

5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

- This is a description of what we would call, 'all of human history.'

- That isn't entirely accurate, because God set it up as 'very good.'

- But this defilement, was toxic.

6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

- The contamination has taken place.

- Why did Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord?

- Because he had a clean genetic code.

In our next lesson, we are going to discover how the contaminated gene pool survived the flood, the examples from Scripture that demonstrate this, and begin to see correlations to how we are dealing with this today.
