Wooden Jesus, where are you from?
Korea or Canada or maybe Taiwan?
But I didn't know it was the Holy Land
But I believed from the minute the check left my hand And I pray
Can I be saved?
I spent all my money on a future grave
Wooden Jesus, I'll cut you in
On twenty percent of my future sin
I'll cut you in

Jesus calls - return to your first love
Revelation 2 The Message (MSG)
To Ephesus
2 Write this to Ephesus, to the Angel of the church. The One with Seven Stars in his right-fist grip, striding through the golden seven-lights’ circle, speaks:
2-3 “I see what you’ve done, your hard, hard work, your refusal to quit. I know you can’t stomach evil, that you weed out apostolic pretenders. I know your persistence, your courage in my cause, that you never wear out.
4-5 “But you walked away from your first love—why? What’s going on with you, anyway? Do you have any idea how far you’ve fallen? A Lucifer fall!
“Turn back! Recover your dear early love. No time to waste, for I’m well on my way to removing your light from the golden circle.
6 “You do have this to your credit: You hate the Nicolaitan business. I hate it, too.
7 “Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. I’m about to call each conqueror to dinner. I’m spreading a banquet of Tree-of-Life fruit, a supper plucked from God’s orchard.”
Material Jesus
Are you mechanical, blind, and useless? Are you a lonely spec in the dark?
What about feelings, thoughts, ideas, dreams… These are not matter. Are they real?
Are you free? Or just deluding yourself? Aren’t we responsible for our actions?
>> That means we have choice. But what is the choice?
The fundamental knowledge of the self, that you exist, is incompatible with materialism.
Why is the world in love with materialism?
It sounds like it should be compatible with science. Focus on the observable.
>> I think it’s because materialism kills God.
IF you Kill God:
Everything becomes relative.
You become the god of yourself.
And you can self-define because there is no higher authority.
My truth, it seems to me, everyone is right, there is no right.
Relativism is easily spun into double standards, and into hatred.
The only problem is that God DOES exist.
And He isn’t just any god, He is Jehova Jesus.
Our minds and spirits cry out trying to convince ourselves of His reality.
Deuteronomy 4:29 (NIV)
But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Jesus had problems.
Jesus had a few problems in life.
This is what was prophesied about Him, and what He chose to take on:
Isaiah 53:2-6 (MSG)
The servant grew up before God—a scrawny seedling,
a scrubby plant in a parched field.
There was nothing attractive about him,
nothing to cause us to take a second look.
He was looked down on and passed over,
a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.
One look at him and people turned away.
We looked down on him, thought he was scum.
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried—
our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.
We thought he brought it on himself,
that God was punishing him for his own failures.
But it was our sins that did that to him,
that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins!
He took the punishment, and that made us whole.
Sharing our experiences with each other builds friendship.
Sharing our struggles and pains make us vulnerable, and happen behind closed doors.
Jesus lived an exposed life, vulnerable, humiliated, and crucified…
He can relate.
Things we endure can become areas of strength.
Like how a tree heals around the wound, we can choose to heal too.
And Jesus works through these things to minister through us to others.
But it begins with that simple walk with Jesus. Relationship.
Romans 5:3-5
3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Proverbs 8:17
I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.
Online Jesus
Jesus doesn’t have Instagram.
He doesn’t rage in forums.
He isn’t worried about his likes, tweets, posts, follows, or comments.
Jesus doesn’t need to tune in to CNN or Fox News to get the headlines.
>>Even though Jesus knows all things, His focus is on something far more interesting… You.
Choosing to turn off the noise.
If we have minds, they are spirit.
If we have spirit, we are conscious.
If we are conscious, we have the ability to make choices.
>> So what are we going to choose?
There are things you can’t control: your job, your child, your chores…
There are things you can control: t.v., radio….
>> put it this way, if there is advertising on it, you can choose to turn it off.
Shouldn’t we be spending more time with Him?
Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jesus - Chief Marketing Officer
Jesus chose to be terrible at marketing.
Luke 14:26 (NIV)
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters--yes, even their own life--such a person cannot be my disciple.
This is not the way to build a mega church.
Or be a famous television / rockstar pastor.
It doesn’t make you rich, buy you a huge house, or a first class ticket.
>> But Jesus was poor.
>> Jesus was homeless.
>> Jesus traveled on foot.
THIS is because He was after something far more valuable.
Your friendship. Your heart.
Matthew 7:7
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Have you been asking
Where is Jesus?
Jesus when are You going to show up?
Jesus, my life has been heavy lately, when will it stop sucking?
>> Maybe you haven’t come to the end of yourself yet.
Take a moment and write down three things you struggle with.
Nobody will read it, and you won’t share it.
It’s a list between you and Jesus.
If you are wondering why you are struggling with the things you are:
Jesus is probably waiting for you to learn to rely on Him in these areas.
You probably need to spend time with Jesus and talk about these things.
Jesus probably wants to develop you in these areas.
Jesus probably has a plan to minister to others about this later.
AND WHEN YOU DO:
The problems won’t evaporate, BUT
You will know peace.
Acts 17:24-28
24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
You are children of God.
He knew you before He made you.
You were made specifically as He designed you, and He didn’t make a mistake. Not one.
Jesus gave you choice.
The challenge is to:
Stop trying to be our own god
Set down the things we worship instead of Jesus - turn off the noise
Remember that Jesus can relate to us exactly
Know who we are in Christ - know we are children of God
