Power of the Two Witnesses, December 7th, 2020

This is an iron sharpens iron group discussion. Thus, there will be no YouTube recording of this meeting. Scriptures and notes on the topic are provided below.

Q1

Who do you think the two witnesses are / will be?

These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.

  • Elijah & Moses or Enoch?

  • Old & New Testament?

  • Jews & Gentiles?

  • Jewish & Christian Church?

Scripture Study 1 - One perspectinve on the identity of the two witnesses

-

Matthew 5:15, Mark 4:21, Luke 8:16 – Jesus describes the people of God who have been “lit” as candlesticks

-

Theologians agree that through prophetic parallels, these also describe the seven conditions of the church. Side note: There are many who also recognize these as seven different periods in church history during the current dispensation.

-

Revelation 2:5 – An example of Jesus providing correction to the church of Ephesus.

“Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.”

-

Only the churches of Smyrna and Philadelphia do not receive correction from our Lord Jesus.

-

Q2

What do you think about the various interpretations that were outlined?

Perspective A:

  1. Two literal people

  2. With literal power

  3. For three and a half years

Perspective B:

  1. Symbolic for the church (believers)

  2. With symbolic power

  3. Over a symbolic period of time

Perspective C:

  1. Symbolic for the church (believers)

  2. With literal power

  3. For three and a half years

Q3

What are the two witnesses, witnessing?

Why are two witnesses required?

A single witness shall not suffice against a person for any crime or for any wrong in connection with any offense that he has committed. Only on the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses shall a charge be established.

In the end times, God’s judgement will be against Satan.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Q4

What are the powers the two witnesses have, and how do they get them?

Joel 2:28, Acts 2:17 – And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;

Acts 2:19 – And I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;

And I [God] will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth. 4 These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.

They have the power to shut the sky, that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire.

Q5

How do you feel about having “powers” in the end times?

Q6

Do you believe God use His believers to send signs to prepare the world for the second coming of Christ Jesus?

Q7

What do you think about the Body of Christ fighting back in the spirit of Moses and Elijah?

Prophecy of the fight given to Daniel has the holy people of God fighting the Antichrist.

Daniel 7:21

NIV: As I watched, this horn was waging war against the holy people and defeating them,

ESV: As I looked, this horn made war with the saints and prevailed over them,

Daniel 7:22

NIV: until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the holy people of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom.

ESV: until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given for the saints of the Most High, and the time came when the saints possessed the kingdom.

Order of events:

  1. The plagues will come

  2. And the anger will set in

  3. And the world will attack the witnesses of God

  4. The world will be no match for God’s witnesses

  5. So the Antichrist will make war on the believers

  6. The bodies of the witnesses will lay in the streets in the Great City of Babylon, which is the whole world

  7. They will be denied burial as a way to shame and disgrace them

  8. When the Antichrist defeats the two witnesses the world will rejoice

  9. The Antichrist will be the world’s savior, their messiah

  10. Then God will show His power by resurrecting the believers

  11. Because God always wins in the end
