The Arc and the Blood

Could the Blood of Christ have literally fallen on the Mercy Seat of our Heavenly Father?

The video below found me the other day.  As I was watching I was amazed at the precision in the crucifixion of Jehovah Jesus.  There are many things that as followers of Lord Jesus we understand and agree with.  But there are some mind-blowing things about this particular deep dive that I’d like you to pay attention to.

1. This is not about proving anything.  Some things we won’t know on this Earth.  See Job 38:1-18.

2. This is not about worshiping a place.  Unless the location is a God thing, it’s about the point, not the location.

3. There are several theories about the location of the Ark of the Covenant.  Ultimately God knows, and that’s what’s important.

4. The Ark of the Covenant is Yahweh’s thrown on Earth.  We can be sure He is protecting it.

5. Ron Wyatt is a man who was following his Lord.  Many debate his credibility.  But this is about God, not man.

Purpose:

The idea of this deep dive is not about the credibility of a person to defend the faith, but the idea that “what if” this is how Yahweh, and our Lord Jesus, planned the resurrection of His children.

The graphic below has commentary that reads “Ron’s theory is not supported by scripture, of course…”  Let’s remember that the Bible is an “Earth book,” a letter written by our Heavenly Father to you, to me, to each of His children.  It is intended to tell us what we need to know, and none of what we don’t.  Just as the Lord made perfectly clear to Job (see Job 38:1-18), our lesson here is clear.

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind: ‘Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

Background Context

Before watching the video, I recommend reading the notes below.  This will explain why – IF this is the location of the Ark of the Covenant – it would make so much sense in context to the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Old School Context

In order to understand why this is such a big deal, let’s consider a few things from the Old Testament.

Rather than recreating the wheel here, the following few paragraphs are excerpts from What Christians Want to Know: https://www.whatchristianswanttoknow.com/what-did-the-high-priest-do-on-the-day-of-atonement/

The Ark of the Covenant

The ark represented the presence of God, and taught all of Israel that they must show a deep, abiding reverence for the things of God, and when you approach God, for He is altogether holy, holy, holy.

It might surprise you that the Book of Hebrews has more references about the high priest than any other book in the Bible, and the references are intended to show the vast differences between a human priesthood, which had to be repeated over and over again and only covered sins, with the Mediator, the High Priest Himself, Jesus Christ, Who not only brings the forgiveness of sins, but takes our sins away forever (Psalm 103:12 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+103%3A12&version=NKJV).

The High Priest

The high priest served as a mediator between God and the people, and was the only one who had close contact with the Holy of Holies, and that only once a year (Day of Atonement). His and the other priests offering animal sacrifices along with other ordinances, would cover the people’s sins, but it had to be repeated because people kept sinning.

The Day of Atonement

This day is better known to the Jews as Yom Kippur. For the Jews, it was the holiest day of the year. It also pictures the coming of the Messiah Who will restore all things, including the nation of Israel

Yom Kippur is actually written “Yom Ha-Kippurim” and reads as “a day of Purim” or a “day of deliverance,” and for the ancient Israelites, it was a day of deliverance from their sins.

The High Priest’s Duties

1. The priest entered into the Most Holy Place the first time to burn incense, representing the prayers of the priests.

2. He then enters a second time with the blood of the bullock.

3. The third time the priest enters the Holy of Holies is to sprinkle the blood of the goat on the mercy seat.  He also sprinkles it toward (but not on) the veil, the altar of incense, and then the burnt-offering. That’s when the high priest lays the personal sins and guilt of all the people on the scapegoat, where confession is made over it and the goat is led away to die, sometimes pushed over a precipice to ensure its death.

4. Then the high priest reads and prayes in the Court of the Women before he puts on the golden garments to offer the burnt and other sacrifices.

5. Finally, he enters the Most Holy Place one last time where he offers the burnt offering and the other sacrifices.

Consider the Following

Jesus is our High Priest

in the Order of Melchizedek

Genesis 14:18

Hebrews 2:17

Hebrews 3:1

Hebrews 4:14-16

Hebrews 7:11-8:2

Hebrews 10:12

Forming the New Covenant

When Lord Jesus was on the cross, He represented both God and Man.  He was the only hypostatic union, which is a fancy way of saying He, Jesus, was all God and All Man.  With His blood, and His sacrifice, He forged the New Covenant.

The Passover Lamb

Passover was both a way of looking back and looking forward.  For the Jews, the celebration looked back to the time in Egypt when the angel of death passed over the houses that had the blood of the lamb on the door.  But it also looked forward to the coming of the Messiah, who would perform this miracle in a new and magnificent way.

The teaching of Jesus Christ and His Gospel helps us understand that we are the new tabernacle.  We are the house.  And the blood is no longer a lamb, not a mere animal, but the Lamb of God, Jesus himself!  The referenced to Egypt in the period of the Law and in Scripture is a reference to the world, from which the Jews were saved.  And today, we live in the world but are not part of it.  Why?  Because we have the Blood of Christ, the salvation we’ve received by receiving Him as our King.

The Blood and the Mercy Seat

Here is what the Scripture says.

1 John 5:7-9 (NKJV)

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+John+5%3A7-9&version=NKJV

7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.  9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son.

John 19:34 (NKJV)

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+19%3A34&version=NKJV

34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

Exodus 25:18-21 (NKJV)

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus+25%3A18-21&version=NKJV

18 And you shall make two cherubim of gold; of hammered work you shall make them at the two ends of the mercy seat. 19 Make one cherub at one end, and the other cherub at the other end; you shall make the cherubim at the two ends of it of one piece with the mercy seat. 20 And the cherubim shall stretch out their wings above, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and they shall face one another; the faces of the cherubim shall be toward the mercy seat. 21 You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the Testimony that I will give you.

Leviticus 16:14 (NKJV)

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus+16%3A14&version=NKJV

14 He shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the mercy seat on the east side; and before the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times.

Importance

Our Heavenly Father knows where the Ark of the Covenant is.  Trying to prove or debate that is not the point here.

Given how critical the Ark of the Covenant, and it’s Mercy Seat – the Throne of the Living God – was in the atonement of sin during the period of the Law, wouldn’t it make sense that it would also serve a purpose in the main event when Christ Jesus forged the New Covenant?

If the location of the Ark of the Covenant, the location of Christ Jesus’ crucifixion, the earthquake, the falling of His Blood on the Mercy Seat…  If this were all true, that would truly be a “God thing.”  No man could have planned this.

It is super important to understand the criticality of the Blood of Jesus that covers us in so many ways.  Spiritually, as children of the Living God, we are all covered in the Blood of Jesus.  This we know to be true.  And how amazing that Jesus died specifically for each of us, and that His Blood would cover us, and be literally placed on the Mercy Seat of God the Father.

– It is worth a moment to ponder these things, and give thanks to Him who loves us so much.
